Carmine Catalano was born in 1995 in Benevento (Italy). In 2006 he started to play the classical
guitar under the guidance of Silvia Cavalli. In 2017, he obtained summa cum laude his Master’s
degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the “Nicola Sala” State Conservatory of Music
(Benevento, IT, class of Prof. Paolo Lambiase, additional lessons with Prof. Christian Saggese). After
graduation, he attended the training course in music pedagogy and didactics at the same conservatory,
which he completed with the highest grade. In the following years he trained under Prof. Eliot Fisk
at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where he was
awarded the Diploma di merito.
He attended masterclasses and seminars with Lorenzo Micheli, Zaira Meneses, Pavel Steidl, Carlo
Marchione, Jerome Mouffe, Bruce Holzman, Benjamin Verdery, Carles Trepat, Giampaolo Bandini,
Mario Fragnito, Duo Lambiase-Viti, Giulio Tampalini, Douglas James, Stefan Hackl, Antoinette
Perry among others. He also holds a master’s degree in law (with distinction) from the University of
Sannio, and he is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with major in instrumental music
pedagogy at the University Mozarteum in cooperation with the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium.
In the last year he started participating in music competitions and pursuing a regular concert
activity that has so far led him to perform in Italy, Austria, Belgium and the USA among others in
concert halls such as the Wiener Saal, Schloss Höch, BOZAR and Carnegie Hall. Recent awards
include 2nd prize in the 1st Caneres International Music Competition Vienna, Gold Prize and Special
Prize for excellent technique at Manchester International Music Competition 2022, Gold Prize at
Franz Schubert International Music Competition 2022, 2nd Prize at 2023 Charleston International
Classical Music Competition 2023, 1st Prize and Unique Interpretation special Award at UK
International Music competition, Gold Prize at 2023 Sibelius Music Competition, Bronze Prize at
Euterpe Music Awards 2022, 1st Prize at Fanny Mendelssohn International Music Competition, 2nd

Competition. As a winner of the career prize of the Lugano International Music Competition he
entered the class of Prof. Pierre Beaudry, under whom he recently started taking private classes and
refining his skills at the Tiziano Rossetti International Music Academy (Lugano, CH).
His first digital EP with music by Mlle Bouquet, Legnani, Paganini and Gilardino was published
online by TrueArt TV/Music Label.
Since 2020 he leads a classical guitar class as full-time instructor at Tiroler Musikschulwerk, the
network of the Tyrolean regional music schools. He plays on a Torres model guitar (2011) by
Neapolitan luthier Gianni Battelli and a cedar top concert guitar by Toscana based luthier Gioachino
Giussani (2004).
