Francesco Emanuele Di Iorio, born in 1996 in Avellino (Italy), approached the study of the
guitar from the age of ten. He obtained both his Bachelor of Arts in Classical Guitar Performance
with highest marks and honours and his Master of Arts degree in Classical Guitar Performance summa
cum laude at the “Giuseppe Martucci” State Conservatory of Music (Salerno, IT) in the class of Prof.
Ugo Di Giovanni. He has attended masterclasses with Tilman Hoppstock, Christian Saggese, Andrea
De Vitis, Lorenzo Micheli, Matteo Mela, Takeo Sato, Eliot Fisk, Carlo Marchione, Aniello Desiderio,
Pavel Steidl, Matthew McAllister, Graham Devine, Paolo Lambiase, Mario Fragnito, Piero Viti. He
also had the opportunity to deepen his guitar and music studies with maestros Carlo Fimiani and
Frank Gambale.
He performs both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, performing in Italy and in important
halls in Europe such asthe Kleines Studio at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Studio Recital
Hall at the BOZAR in Brussels. Winner of several music competitions including first prize at the
“Napolinova” International Competition, first prize at the 14th “Città di Caserta” International Music
Competition, first prize at the 1st “Città di Baronissi” International Music Performance Competition,
first prize at the Caneres International Music Competition in Vienna, first prize at the Lugano
International Music Competition, second prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition 2023 in
Brussels, second prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition 2023 in Barcellona. He performed in
the presence of Maestro Frank Gambale during the ceremony for the conferment of honorary
citizenship in Italy and also participated in Maestro Eliot Fisk’s courses at the International Summer
Academy at the Univerisity Mozarteum in Salzburg and those of Maestro Tilman Hoppstock in Italy.
He was also selected for the “Career project” at the Tiziano Rossetti International Music Academy
(Lugano, CH) in the class of Prof. Pierre Beaudry.
He plays on a cedar top concert guitar from renowned Sicilian luthier Antonino Scandurra (1994).
The Dódeka Guitar Duo formed by Carmine Catalano and Francesco Emanuele Di Iorio was
founded in 2023 and made its debut on the scene by participating in the IMKA Music Competition.
The duo’s goal is to initiate a concert activity in which the guitar duo can offer the opportunity to
expand the boundaries of the six strings alone in exploring original literature and literature not
intended directly for the guitar, but in which the guitar can play a decisive role in the interpretive
framework. The duo’s actual activity focuses on harpsichord literature between the 17th and 18th
century.
