Igor Chyrc was born on June 9, 2011 in Cracow, Poland. His mother sang, danced and his
father sang and played the trumpet in the “Zagórzanie” Folk Song and Dance Ensemble.
Igor was known for his sense of rhythm and musical ear since kindergarten. He liked to sing,
dance and play musical instruments.
His first artistic success was winning 1st Award in the regional Folk Song Contest for
preschoolers.
In elementary school he quickly learned to play the flute. Since his musical abilities went far
beyond the current school curriculum and his teacher suggested enrolling Igor in a music
school.
In September 2021 Igor began studying at the M. Karłowicz State Music School in Cracow in
the saxophone class of Tomasz Skiba. He was a really good student and quickly mastered
the saxophone so after 5 months of study he took part in the Interschool Wind Instrument
Competition and took 3rd place. It was his stage debut as a saxophonist. Since then he has
participated in dozens of national and international music competitions, always winning the
title of Laureate. He has won many Grand Prix Awards, Special Awards and First Prizes. He
first received the Grand Prix of the Saxophone Festival in his first year of study.
Igor takes learning to play the saxophone very seriously and uses every opportunity to
develop his skills – also during extracurricular workshops even during summer holidays. He
had the honor and pleasure of perfecting his musical skills under the watchful eye of
professors and outstanding saxophonists such as Paweł Gusnar, Hans de Jong, Philippe
Geiss, Vincent David, Asya Fateyeva, Primoz Fleischman, Gerald Preinfalk, Magdalena
Jakubska-Szymiec, Łukasz Nędza, Alicja Wołyńczyk-Raniszewska, Weronika Partyka.
Igor loves playing the saxophone and performing on stage not only during competitions but
also at concerts. He loves to please the audience with his music and is often invited to
participate in the Winners’ Concerts. In May 2023 he took part in the 2nd International
Festival of Talents Gloria Artis in Vienna. Then he was invited to the New York City Prize
Winners’ Recital 2023 and Winners Grand Concert Bled 2023 in Slovenia.
In 2024 he performed at the International Cultural Center in Cracow and at the Academy of
Music in Poznań in the “Young Stage” concert during the 5th International Poznań SaxEvent.
Then he performed at the Royal Castle in Niepołomice in the “Music in Winter” concert and
at the Juliusz Słowacki Theater in Cracow. He also performed in a concert from the “Young
Virtuosos” series at the Palace on the Island of the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw.
Igor also performed in the international youth saxophone orchestra under the baton of
Gerald Prinfalk from Austria.
However Igor’s biggest musical event is undoubtedly his participation in the Winners’
Concert of the American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition New York
2023 at the prestigious Carnegie Hall which took place on June 28, 2024. Igor received his
First Award and the Special Jury Award there.
Since 2022 Igor has been the scholarship holder of the Małopolska Scholarship Program
and the Wieliczka County Governor. Since 2023 he also has been the scholarship holder of
the Mayor of the City and Commune of Niepołomice and the Cracow “Pro Musica Bona”
Foundation supporting the most talented students of music schools in Małopolska and the
“Talented” Program of the National Children’s Fund.
His career as a saxophonist began less than 3 years ago but he already has many musical
achievements under his belt and many more ahead of him. Playing the saxophone is his
greatest passion. Igor wants to become an outstanding famous saxophonist like his greatest
idol Professor Paweł Gusnar and give people a lot of pleasant moments with his music. He
wants to give concerts all over the world.
