A native of Nice, France, and a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, emerging SopranoBéatrice Beer has been hailed as “a true Puccini soprano in a class of her own,” “gifted with a distinctive sound… and truly glorious high notes” and “one of the best Toscas around.”
Ms. Beer was selected to sing a live telecast performance at the Philadelphia Marathon in November 2015 for an audience of some 90,000.
On the concert stage, Ms. Beer has been reviving the music of her father, the late “Holocaust” composer Joseph Beer, an opera composer whose brilliant career start as a youth was abruptly halted by the Holocaust. He has left behind an important body of work presently being represented and published by European premiere publishing house Doblinger Musikverlag.
Ms. Beer has been performing her father’s music internationally to great critical acclaim, at times in duo with world renowned international Dramatic Baritone Robert McFarland — in Austria, Germany, in Washington, D.C., New York City, Philadelphia and throughout the United States.
Last summer, she was part of a high profile Los Angeles Times article which featured her father prominently (see Article Link on the Joseph Beer page.)
Ms. Beer is slated for a CD live recording with the British Toccata Classics label per Maestro John Mauceri’s recommendation — co-staring celebrated Dramatic Baritone Robert McFarland among others. For more information, please visit the Joseph Beer page, http://www.JosephBeerComposer.com or https://www.facebook.com/JosephBeerComposer. Launch Date: TBA.
On the operatic stage, a former Mezzo-Soprano, Ms. Beer has performed among others the roles of Nicklausse, Stéphano, Prince Orlovsky, Suzuki, and Lola. Since her vocal switch to Full Lyric Soprano, her repertoire includes Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Margherita, Adriana Lecouvreur, Amelia, Magda, Giorgetta, Violetta Valéry, Norma, Mimì, Desdemona, and the three Tales of Hoffmannheroines.
She has performed the roles of Mimì with Amici Opera and Tosca in concert with The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival where she was noted as being “one of the best Toscas around now.”
She made her Atlantic Coast Opera Festival Mainstage debut in the role of Mimì (Bohème) in 2009, followed there by the role of the Countess (Nozze di Figaro) in 2011, Desdemona in the 2012 production of Verdi’ Otello and starred in an acclaimed double bill of Cavalleria Rusticana (as Santuzza) and World Premiere Gala Concerts of Joseph Beer’s music (Soprano Soloist.)
Ms. Beer performed the roles of La Musica, La Messaggera, Proserpina and La Speranza in Monteverdi’s Orfeo the Fall of 2013, her first Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff the Spring of 2014, and last June she sang her first Queen Elisabeth/Donizetti opera (Roberto Devereux – Amici Opera.)
She was back with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival performing her first Nedda in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci along with the lead soprano role of Jadja in Joseph Beer’s great pre-war “blockbuster” Polnische Hochzeit last August.
Béatrice starred in her very first Lucrezia Borgia (Donizetti) with Amici Opera in December 2014, and as the lead in Franco Leoni’s L’Oracolo in March 2015.
She performed her first Caterina Cornaro (Donizetti) in July 2015, and performed a celebrated round of full performances of her first Fidelio — “… she was born to sing Fidelio” commented the critics — with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival last August.
Ms. Beer starred in the lead role of Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Alceste (her first shot at the great queen’s role) late October 2015, followed by a repeat of Monteverdi’s Orfeo.
In the Spring 2016, Béatrice portrayed her very first Elizabeth de Valois in Verdi’s Don Carlo followed by a repeat of Leoni’s L’Oracolo, with her first Respighi opera, Belfagor (Candida) last May 2016.
She performed her first Amelia (Masked Ball) in June 2016 with The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, followed by an acclaimed repeat of Desdemona (Otello) with the Festival last Summer under the baton and direction of the internationally acclaimed Dramatic Baritone/Conductor/Stage Director Robert McFarland.
The gifted artist performed her first Brahms’s Requiem as Soprano Soloist in October 2016, followed by the title role in Massenet’s rarely performed Marie-Magdeleine.
In November 2016, she was heard in the great Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes’ grand opera Lo Schiavo in the lead soprano role of Ilàra. She stepped in shortly thereafter as a last minute replacement as Musetta in La Bohème in December 2016, followed by the title role in Massenet’s Grisélidis.
Ms. Beer did her first Leonora (Forza del Destino), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) as well Mozart’s Requiem as Soprano Soloist in the Spring of 2017.
Last fall 2017, she portrayed her first Eleonora, the lead soprano in Donizetti’s rarely done Assedio di Calais with Amici Opera, followed by a repeat of her acclaimed Desdemona (Otello) with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia in December 2017.
She was the Soprano Guest Soloist in concert with Capitol Opera in March 2018, and will take the title role in Massenet’s oratorio La Vierge in May 2018.
Ms. Beer will then star in her first Giorgetta and as Santuzza in the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival double bill of Cavalleria Rusticana/Tabarro under the baton of Mo. Robert McFarland in the Summer of 2018.
Later on in 2018, she will portray her first Abigaille (Nabucco) then Eleanora (Don Carlo) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in the winter of 2018, followed by a Mascagni double bill of Cavalleria/Zanetto (Santuzza/Silvia) in June 2019.
Ms. Beer has been a finalist in competitions held by the Liederkranz Foundation, Classical Productions Ltd. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Queens Opera, and Naomi Music Productions.
As an award-winning, passionate writer from early childhood, Ms. Beer first attained a Bachelor’s degree Summa Cum Laude in Comparative Literature (Louisiana State University) to comply with her father’s wish to obtain a doctorate and thus secure a stable living.
She then decided to pursue her other lifetime passion since being a toddler: singing!! She earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Additional training includes Masters of Music in Vocal Performance studies at the Juilliard School, vocal seminars in Luino, Italy and Nice, France; apprenticeships with Opera North (NH) and Natchez Opera (MS.)
Ms. Beer’s coaches include Valéry Ryvkin (San Francisco Opera, Valery Gergiev’s assistant) Jane Klaviter (Metropolitan Opera) William Hicks (New York City Opera) and Ruslan Odintsov (Kharkov National University of the Arts, Ukraine.) She counts among her conductors Maestro Robert McFarland, Charles Prince, David Antony Lofton, Yves Abel and the late David Blackburn.
