ShinHyung Kim, originally from South Korea, is an active soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician. She won the first place at the American Protégé International Piano and String Competition 2019. In 2018, she also won the second prize in the United States International Piano Duo Competition. In addition, she was a finalist in the MTNA–Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition. From 2015 to 2018, she served as a piano teaching assistant at the University of Iowa. She also had a master class with professor Blanca Uribe, and attended a music festival, Musikfest (Faribault, Minnesota) in 2016. She has given numerous solo and chamber recitals, and a lecture recital at several venues including Carnegie hall, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Iowa Hospitals andShinHyung  Clinics, Oaknoll Retirement Community, Mercy Hospital, Melrose Meadows Retirement Community, the United Methodist Church (Washington, IA), and the 

Maquoketa Art Experience (Maquoketa, IA). 

She earned her Bachelor degree in Piano Performance from the Chung-Ang University in 2011. During her undergraduate years, she studied piano with Prof. Chiho Cho and earned the Honor Scholarships which were only given to three outstanding students. In 2007, she performed in the concert for excellent freshmen students. In 2009, she won the Second Prize of Haneum Piano Duo Competition. She performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat Major, K. 271, “Jeunehomme” with the National Symphony Orchestra in South Korea. ShinHyung Kim moved to the United States in 2013. She earned her Master’s degree in Piano Performance at Michigan State University, studying with Professor Deborah Moriarty, earning several music scholarships and a summer fellowship. While studying at Michigan State University, she performed several solo recitals including Greater Lansing Community Concert Series and worked as accompanist for a youth choir at the Community Music School in East Lansing. In 2014, she participated in the master classes at Centro Studi Carlo Della Giocoma in Todi, Italy. 

She is currently pursuing the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Iowa under the tutelage of Dr. Nosikova. She is also an accompanist for the University of Iowa Youth Ballet at the University of Iowa, and a piano instructor at the Willowwind School.
